titleAbstract/titlep The method of rigid overlying strata failure assessment of extracted seams is based on the simultaneous assessment of surface subsidence and seismic activity considering spatio-temporal progress of mining depending on the rock mass character and previous mine activity. If no complete failure of the firm overlaying layers occurs, the surroundings of the worked-out area is considerably supercharged and a risk of anomalous geomechanical phenomena occurrence substantially increases. The paper explains the mechanism of a rigid overlying strata failure under specific condition./p
