A laboratory-scale exploration of the long-term behaviour of mechanically separated organic residue in a flushing bioreactor

At VAM waste treatment company in Wijster (theNetherlands) a demonstration is in progress of bioreactortechnology for treatment of the mechanical separated organicresidue (MSOR) of a waste separation plant. In order to explorethe long-terms behaviour of MSOR in a bioreactor additionallaboratory-scale research is initiated, which runs analogouslywith the bioreactor demonstration. In runs analogously with thebioreactor demonstration. In laboratory-scale test columns theanaerobic degradation processes are enhanced, and full biologicalstabilization was expected within a year. This paper examines theobjectives, experimental set-up and first results from thelaboratory-scale research.
