AbstractMonofilaments were obtained or extruded and drawn to representative degrees. The dynamic mechanical properties of polyether based polyurethane, high density polyethylene, and polycaprolactam monofilaments produced commercially and of laboratory prepared monofilaments of low and high density polyethylene, poly(ethylene terephthalate), and poly(tetramethylene terephthalate) were measured. The data are compared with those from oriented film and amorphous or unoriented film when possible. The effect of orientation on the properties was clearly detectable as was the effect of absorption of water vapor on polycaprolactam.
