A new shape function for self-formed straight threshold channelsin uniform bed material is proposed, based on the static equilibriumof forces acting on individual particles lying at threshold on thechannel boundary. The combination of this function with the Shionoand Knight depth-averaged momentum Equation, the threshold conditionof Ackers and White and the resistance law Of White, Paris andBettess gives a Physically-based geometric model for the Design ofthreshold channels. Geometric Dimensions predicted by the model areShown to be consistent with Experimental data.
