The counthyphen;rate discriminator, CoRaD, was developed for use with the xhyphen;ray microprobe and scanning electron microscope. It is a digital device that facilitates the production of backgroundhyphen;free xhyphen;ray scanning images. It has been used to great advantage in analyzing multiphase specimens containing the same elements in different proportions. CoRaD permits the selective display of any one phase exclusive of the others. When CoRaD is interfaced to three scalers, the volume fraction and mean particle size of selected phases can be determined.
