To the investigate the mechanism of capsaicin in psoriasis vulgaris. Substance P (SP) in psoriatic lesions before and 6 weeks after the treatment with capsaicin was detedted by radioimmunoassary. After 3 weeks and 6 weeks treatment with capsaicin, SP in psoriatic lesions was decreased (P<0.05), while it in the self-control group was not decreased; Overall the efficient incidence in therapeutic group was 78.8 percent, while it in the control group was 36.8 percent. There was significant difference between them (chi~2 16.30, P <0.001). Capsaicin inhibits dermal inflammatory responses and proliferation of keratinocytes by decreasing the expression of SP in psoriasis vulgaris.
