The Neuropsychoanalytic Clinical Study Center (NCSC) was formed in 2003 as a component part of The National Psychological Association for Psychoanalysis (NPAP). The NCSC is the first clinical group in the city of New York whose mission is to provide neuropsychoanaltytically informed psychotherapy to patients who have sustained focal brain damage, including stroke, traumatic brain injury, meningiomas and epilepsy. Inspired by Dr. Mark Solms, a neuropsychologist, psychoanalyst, and founder of neuropsychoanalysis, and Dr. Edith Laufer, Director Emeritus of NSCS, the licensed clinicians at NCSC are trained to use a neuropsychoanalytic approach in helping brain-injured patients mourn their losses, form new identities and achieve realistic hope for the future.
