Efficacy of Curzate M8 72 WP against citrus Phytophthora in kinnow mandarin

Citrus foot rot/gummosis (Phytophthora nicotianae Breda de Haan var. parasitica (Dastur) Waterhouse) is an economically important disease of citrus (Timmer and Menge, 1988; Das, 2009). The disease causes heavy destruction of Kinnow plantations and also reduces the life expectancy, quality and yield potential of the citrus plantation (Sandler et ai, 1988;Naqvi, 1994; Thind and Sharma, 1996; Timmer et ai, 1998). The malady is fatal to the tree if not properly diagnosed and timely treated especially atan early stage of infection. Ridomil MZ 72 WP (metalaxyl 8 + mancozeb 64) application as trunk paint, foliar sprays and soil drench is the most commonly followed practice for its effective management (Naqvi, 1994; Timmer et ai, 1998; Thind et ai, 1999;Kaur et al, 2009; Jagtap et al, 2013; Dhakad et ai, 2016). Presently, Ridomil MZ is providing poor disease control due to development of resistance by the pathogen. Moreover, Rodomil MZ/ Ridomil Gold have no label claim against citrus Phytophthora disease. Therefore, an attempt was made to provide an alternative of Ridomil MZ/ Ridomil Gold. The trial was conducted for three years to test efficacy of Curzate M8 72 WP (cymoxanil 8 + mancozeb 64) (M/s E.I DuPont India Pvt. Ltd.) for the safe and effective management of citrus Phytophthora disease.
