Abstract This invited Team Profile was created by the Ibáñez group, Institute of Science and Technology Austria. They recently published an article together with the Brutchey group from USA, and Arbiol group from Spain. The work presents the strategy of functionalizing surfactant‐free particles by using inorganic molecules to control the microstructure during the sintering process. In particular, bismuth thiolates were used to functionalize surfactant‐free SnTe particle surfaces. Upon thermal processing, decomposition of bismuth thiolates renders SnTe‐Bi2S3 nanocomposites with synergistic functions to enhance thermoelectric performance. “Surface Functionalization of Surfactant‐Free Particles: A Strategy to Tailor the Properties of Nanocomposites for Enhanced Thermoelectric Performance”, C.
