Occurrence of collar rot of French bean grown underprotected conditions

French bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is an important leguminous crop which is grown both for green pods as well as dry beans. Hilly tracts (900-2500 m AMSL) are more suitable for its cultivation due to prevalence of mild climatic conditions (Sharma andSohi, 1989). In mid hill areas of Himachal Pradesh, it is grown as an off-season vegetable crop and pods are transported to the northern plains where they fetch remunerative prices. In open conditions, the crop is grown for green pods during May to October but to extend the availability of pods from October onwards, pole type variety "Lakshmi" is sown in the same beds during September under protected conditions where tomato crop was grown to utilize the stakes used for that crop. Surveys of different polyhouses of Solan district were conducted during the months of October-November 2017 to record the incidence/ severity of different diseases infecting French bean crop. Some French bean plants in polyhouse of Department of Soil Science and Water Management were showing wilting, drooping, and stunting symptoms. The incidence of such infected plants ranged from 20 to 30 in different rows.
