Japanese seed business Sakata Seed has acquired Dutch peer business Sana Seeds (Enkhuizen), which specializes in the breeding, production and sale of cucumber varieties. The company will become part of Sakata’s European vegetables business, Sakata Vegetables Europe. Sakata looks to enhance its fruits and vegetables portfolio in the region through the acquisition. It rates cucumbers as “important” to the market, adding that the business had already been selling varieties of Sana Seeds.
