? 2022 Elsevier LtdSubstantial ice loads often threaten ice-class propellers in frozen waters. Therefore, it is important to analyze the ice-class propeller's strength and ice load's magnitude. On the other hand, the complicated ice failure process and twisted propeller shape make it difficult to investigate the correlation between the ice-propeller contacting phenomena and ice load. In this paper, a simplified propeller blade profile is utilised to study the ice load failure and the structural response of the propeller blade. Besides, it develops ice failure and propeller blade profile models based on the ordinary and non-ordinary state-based peridynamics theory and validates them using experimental and numerical simulation results. The contact between the ice and the blade profile is accomplished using a short-range force model, and the penalty force is used to suppress the zero-energy mode. Furthermore, the effect of the angle of attack on the ice-milling process is also investigated in this paper.
