摘要

Now in it's second edition, Occupational Therapy in Mental Health: A Vision for Participation provides insight into the practice area of mental health and, more importantly, the lived experience and recovery journey of individual’s with mental health disorders. The text accomplishes its primary purpose of introducing entry-level occupational therapy (OT) students to the vast considerations and knowledge necessary to work in mental health practice settings or with client’s in any setting experiencing mental health issues. In this edition, authors remain true to their original framework for the text, organizing and applying content using the Person-Environment-Occupation (PEO) model and the conceptual lens of a recovery-oriented approach to mental health practice. Through 8 new chapters the authors highlight significant changes in practice that have occurred since the texts first edition. These include updates from the DSM-V (American Psychiatric Association (APA), 2013), the changing mental health experiences and needs of different populations, and an expanded view of the applicability of OT services within mental health practice. While it's intended readership is entry-level OT students, these updates are particularly relevant for current practitioners who can benefit from an introduction to new evidence, resources, and opportunities for growth as a profession when working with those with mental health disorders such as is presented in Chapter 45: Integrated Behavioral Health and Primary Care.
