"Zero Space" in Musashino Art University is a renovation from an area originally dedicated for online career search, to a multipurpose open space where students, faculty, and visitors can relax and get inspired. It is located on the ground floor of the concrete building where plenty of natural light is coming through the 35m long glass windows on both east and west sides. It is a space where the outside scenery is seen clearly. I examined how the ceiling should be visually materialized considering various uses (lunch, exhibitions, etc.) and floated a white "Zero." I gave physical shape to the thoughts of an idea to be born as "zero as the beginning" for students studying art and design. "Zero" is intended to be the core of the space with the impression that "Zero" itself is emitting light against the background of the skeleton black ceiling by receiving the glare-less artificial light and the reflection of plenty of natural light against the floor. Adjusting to the natural light, four lighting sceneries change seamlessly making a one-day composition. It is operated as a creative space suitable for an art school.
