Terms for brightness have been arranged in general terms and technical terms. We propose to express brightness as a technical term as a set of rating areas such as part brightness, scenery brightness, spatial brightness, etc. In addition, there are brightness ratings of degree and value, and the latter is a suitability rating by comparing the former with the brightness that is the evaluation criterion. It is noted that we should not be confused them. Finally, the transition of brightness research is summarized.
