Call for SOLAS changes post-Concordia

While there is a strong body of opinion within the industry that favours a more considered approach to new legislation in the wake of the loss of Costa Concordia, IMO's Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) has proposed several changes to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention in the light of the casualty. Although the final report is still awaited, the Italian government provided the MSC with the preliminary findings of its ongoing investigations into the disaster, in which at least 30 lives were lost.
