Bauxite liquefaction risk

Bauxite aluminium cargoes can liquefy, the North of England Pl Club has warned in a statement issued on 7 February. The club said that despite the cargo being listed in the International Maritime Solid Bulk Cargoes (IMSBC) Code as 'low risk', bauxite had the potential to liquefy at sea. Liquefaction 'characteristics' had occurred on several entered vessels moving bauxite from Brazil and Indonesia, the Club's risk management executive, Colin Gillespie, said. These cargoes contained a large amount of fines.
