DEVELOPING THE Strikezone DVD series has been a dream come true. However, it has come at a cost—I seem to be working 24 hours a day! This impaired my snapper fishing time in Melbourne during November and instead of chasing reds in Port Phillip Bay, Ifound myself working at a fishing show and doing talks. To make matters worse, my 'mates' kept text messaging me to tell me what I was missing out on (of course, I have never done this to them!). I headed for the launching ramp at Patterson River as soon as my commitments finished. Trevor Hogan, Matt Cini and I hit the water well before dawn. Matt runs Reeltime Fishing Charters and had been on the water every day for three weeks, but he's as keen as I am and there was only one thing he was doing on hisday off. The sun just started to show, reflecting off the city's skyscrapers, as we anchored up in 16 metres of water off Black Rock. The action was instant. One of the rods buckled over halfway through setting the first baits. Trev latched onto it andwe soon had our first snapper of the day. It was a typical 3 kg Port Phillip red, so we gently unhooked it and slipped it back in the water.
