Drummer, black and silver

AUSTRALIA HAS two drummer species of interest to recreational anglers, the black drummer (pig, rock blackfish) and the silver drummer (buffalo bream). Both are tenacious opponents, but the black drummer is the favourite of the two. There are actuallytwo sub-species of black drummer, an eastern and a western species. The eastern rock blackfish is rarely found north of Noosa Heads in Queensland. It prefers the temperate waters of the NSW, eastern Victoria and northeastern Tasmanian coastlines. The western version is found in smaller numbers throughout the southeast coastline of Western Australia.
