JAMES COOK named raser Island's most prominent headland at the start of the tailor season in May 1770. The local aborigines who gathered on top of the 60 m vantage point to watch Endeavour sail past were the inspiration for the name Indian Head. The sleeping monolith that lies at the end of the 75-mile beach is now more likely to house sunbaking backpackers and Queensland's top rods working ganged pilchards through the tailor schools below.
