Moving advanced water treatment into place

The implementation of direct potable reuse (DPR), an emerging strategy for augmenting public water supplies, is gaining traction in the water sector. DPR involves the planned introduction of recycled water either directly into a public water system or into a water supply upstream of a drinking water treatment facility. Since 201 2, the Water Environment & Reuse Foundation (WE&RF) has invested more than $24 million in a DPR research initiative to evaluate technical, operational, and managerial aspects related to DPR. The report, Potable Reuse Research Compilation: Synthesis of Findings (Reuse-15-01), is a comprehensive summary on the state-of-the science of DPR to help utilities and regulatory agencies evaluate, plan, and implement DPR as a water source.
