USGS finds excessive radon levels in Pennsylvania groundwater

Results from a recent U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) study reveal excessive levels of radon in 14% of surveyed groundwater wells in Pennsylvania. Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas found in rocks and soils that affects indoor air quality. When radon dissolves into groundwater, it can escape into household air through faucets and foundation cracks. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) names radon exposure as the second-leading cause of lung cancer in the nation.
