One can practically count the number of automated container terminals on one hand with Brisbane, Busan, Hamburg (Altenwerder), Rotterdam (Euromax) and Portsmouth (US) the only ones of note currently in service. But there are many more in the planning stage, with Khalifa (Abu Dhabi), Barcelona, London Gateway, Rotterdam (APM Teminals' Maasvlakte 2) in the planning stage and others where terminal managers are upgrading and modernising their facilities.
