The world containership fleet grew by 0.6% in May 2012 to 15.87 million TEU. This was slightly slower than the near 1% growth registered in May. Year-on-year the rise was 74%. The orderbook remained subdued in May with the awaited order by Evergreen for a series of 13,800TEU ships not materialising, owing to financial issues. One contract was confirmed during the month and that was for UK-managed Lomar Shipping & Management and comprised small very fuel-efficient tonnage loading 1.100TEU.
