PSS causes transpac rates jump

Transpacific spot rates surged in June on the back of the Trans pacific Stabilization Agreement's (TSA) Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) which kicked in on June 10. According to the Shanghai Shipping Exchange's Shanghai Containerised Freight Index (SCFI), the average rate for a FEU moving from Shanghai to the US west coast (USWC) leapt by 14% on June 8, compared with a week earlier, up to USD2.658, while over on the US east coast, it rose by a slightly lesser 9.4%, up to USD3.774.
