STRUCTURAL SLOWDOWN

The past two years have seen a strong recovery in container-handling activity with well over 100 million TEU more containers processed at ports across the globe last year than in the nadir year of 2009 (450 million TEU and a drop of just over 10% on the previous year). While the medium and long-term trend appears sound, difficulties are expected in 2012 as economic recession and financial crises, particularly in Europe, affect investor sentiment and trader confidence.
