In 2011, certain ports in Latin America posted the highest growth rates of any in the world with Brazilian and Panamanian ports performing particularly well. Balboa, the Pacific coast port of Panama posted another sterling result with volumes rising just over 17% to 3.2 million TEU. With growth twice that of Brazil's largest box port Santos, the result meant it stretched its lead over Santos during the year.
