WISA calls for greater industry engagement: National body on membership drive

ON THURSDAY 13 October, about 100 people from the wine industry came together to celebrate innovation and leadership in the supply sector. The annual event was hosted by Wine Industry Suppliers Australia (WISA), a national body that seeks to representand encourage collaboration between those who supply services and products to the wider wine industry. It's not just the growers and winemaker s who have toughed it out over the past few years, with the sector that supplies the industry also feeling thefinancial pinch. For the past 30 years, the Australian and New Zealand Wine Industry Directory (WID) has offered a free listing to every winery and supplier in the industry. In 1990, the WID listing of wine suppliers amounted to 299 suppliers and took up 21 pages. By 2001, the free listings grew to 736 suppliers and 55 pages. In 2007, it had grown to 1134 supplier listings - a growth of 380 per cent in 17 years and 154% in six years.
