Grapegrower & Winemoker heads to the sunshine state for this month's state wine wrap. Queensland showcased its potential for alternative grape varieties at the Queensland Wine Awards in September. Golden Grove Estate Wines' Granite Belt Durif, a Strange Bird alternative red wine that is popular in California, was named overall champion wine of show, and champion alternative red. Lucas Estate's 2009 Petit Verdot, a red variety suited to warm regions, took out champion mainstream variety red wine.
