Time to face up and unite on the big issue: Wine and health

THE ALCOHOL POLICY Coalition (ACP) has become increasingly vocal and is the driving force behind alcohol taxation reform within our country. Not only are they advocating to change the mechanism of taxation of wine, but they also aim to increase the amount of taxation on the wine industry. Wine is clearly in their sights. Taxation is the blunt instrument that they seek to use to control alcohol consumption. Is a volumetric tax at the spirit rate enough for them? The ACP is a coalition of Australian Drug Foundation, Cancer Council Victoria, Heart Foundation (Victoria), Turning Point Alcohol and Drug Centre, and VicHealth. They are well-resourced and this includes government funding.
