New ways of growing Sangiovese in the King Valley

The Sangiovese blocks are at altitudes between 250-435m, with a diverse range of aspects and slopes. Vines were 8-28 years old and cane- or spur-pruned, mainly VSP and managed according to best practice. Eight clones were compared: Brunello, Vcr 5 and6, Mat 6 and 7, Msl and 2 (new Tuscan clones) and h6v9 (UC Davis).
