(How) Is Australian wine unique?

Australian wines have blazedtrails in terms of styles, varietiesand marketing stories to the rest of the world. Without the constraints of the AOC system, equipped with the Australian 'have a crack mentality', our wine exports have nearly tripled to a figure approaching $3bn. We've exported varietal based wine, as opposed to region specific wines and consumers abroad have loved what we offer. Then, more traditional producers began offering varietal marketed wines. We grew on 'sunshine and open space' wines, but other producers such as Chile followed. Everything we've offered is more or less imitable, so how are we unique?
