Keeping a finger on the pulse of cooling technology

Some impressive gains in energy savings and process control have been made, even in the brief period from 2019 to the present. A recent example of this progress is a Victorian company which specialises in commercial and industrial refrigeration. NKS (located at Lilydale in outer Melbourne) has supplied to a winery client, and then installed, a new -5°C glycol primary chiller plant including underground secondary pipework. The pipework provides glycol to a range of equipment including must of the winery's chillers, cool rooms, wine storage tanks and open fermenters. Efficiency of such systems is of prime concern to winemakers as refrigeration can account for 50-70% of electricity consumption.
