A University of Florida Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences extension-program agent who years ago helped in the establishment of a clam hatchery in the Cedar Key area of the state was honored with the Distinguished Service Award by the national chapter of the World Aquaculture Society at the Aquaculture America conference in New Orleans.Leslie Sturmer, whose husband Chris is a member of the clam industry in the Cedar Key area, assisted in the training of displaced commercial clam fishermen in the Cedar Key area when the authorities shut down an active wild fishery on clams.
