Selective breeding programs

The results of a survey on aquaculture breeding practices in Europe (including Turkey and Israel) confirms the increasing prevalence of selective breeding in food fish.Researchers from the Universita degli Studi in Padova, Italy, working with the AquaTrace program funded by the EU, and using information provided from the FishBoost project, identified 40 organizations with selective breeding programs for six different species of food fish: European sea bass, gilthead sea bream, turbot, rainbow trout, Atlantic salmon and common carp.
