Perhaps more hidden, are the personal stories of those we work alongside, those we support and those we lead.Each of us carries our own personal story as we go about delivering care, often setting aside our worries and suffering and our thoughts of home and family life.In the article on compassionate leadership (page 32) Vogel and Flint gently but powerfully remind us of this reality. And yet, as they say, sometimes 'compassion towards the compassionate' may be lacking.Referring to the work of Gilbert (2013), they suggest that compassion towards ourselves and our colleagues requires kindness and an awareness of personal suffering.
