COVID proves to be a distraction from bird flu

Fears abound around the deadly H5N8 subtype of avian influenza (bird flu) after a spate of wild swan deaths in England (United Kingdom - UK) and potential threats to commercial poultry. November 2020 saw reports from north and north-west England of mute swans {Cygnus olor) displaying strange symptoms and which proved fatal in most cases. Reports came in from Ulverston Canal in Cumbria, Blackpool in Lancashire, and Worcestershire.
