Optimization design of a stereo-photographic system based on achromatic double-prism arrays

We present an optimization design for a stereo-photographic system where achromatic double-prism arrays are used in front of the camera lens to reduce chromatic aberration and distortion. Due to the optical properties of the prism, the image formed by a single-prism array exhibits large chromatic aberration and distortion. The chromatic aberration and distortion for both single-prism array and double-prism array stereo-photographic systems were analyzed by the CODE V software. The double-prism arrays have larger distortion, but the chromatic aberration is small. The distortion arising from the double-prism arrays can be compensated by the camera lens design. The design results show that the maximum spot size is reduced from 17.7 mu m to 8.8 mu m after optimization. The proposed stereo-photographic system has high-quality stereo images.
