There are not many books on scientific subjects to which one immediately attaches the label "surprising".Works of a strictly scientific kind,especially those of a textbook character,vary between those that are long overdue (and are awaited with eager anticipation) and those that are superfluous (which certainly also occurs).However,this book (or textbook) certainly belongs to the rare class of new publications that are surprising.
