摘要

The initiation of gene transcription is dependent on the interaction between specific proteins and short DNA sequences that are usually located upstream of the promoter of the gene.[1] In most cases,these proteins are unable to bind DNA as monomeric modules and need to cooperate with other proteins to form high-affinity complexes with specific DNA sequences.[2] Such is the case for the bZIP family of transcription factors,which bind DNA as leucine-zipper-mediated homo- or heterodimers,with an N-terminal basic region (BR) of each monomer inserting into adjacent DNA major grooves.
