Halomagnesium amides of empirical formula R2NMgX are among the earliest known organomagnesium compounds, being first introduced by Meunier in 1903. Later in the middle of the 20th century, Hauser and co-workers developed their use as special Br0nsted bases, a contribution acknowledged today by their generic description as Hauser bases.
