While the tariffs put in place against imported aluminium because of the Section 232 investigation have beenthe cause of a great deal of stress in the aluminium industry, the extrusion and billet markets are looking atpotential impacts in very different ways. In general, for extruders, there is no real concern about the impacton supply of imported extrusions, so instead have focused their efforts on understanding the potentialimpacts to price. Whereas domestic billet producers are concerned about unintended consequences thetariffs may cause, like distortions in the physical market and trade flows, possibly putting domestic remeltersat a disadvantage.
