I have been a nurse for 30 years this year and I can honestly say my job continues to challenge and thrill me very day. The most rewarding part of being a student nurse for me was being bed-side with our patients and this remains the most satisfying part of my role. In those days we had 30-bed Nightingale wards that seemed to stretch on forever; now we are used to working with our patients in individual rooms and small bays, which has certainly improved their privacy and dignity.
