Chemistry at Its Best

Angewandte Chemie is a journal that is well-known and highly regarded all over the world. It is owned by the Gesell-schaft Deutscher Chemiker, the German Chemical Society, and is published by Wiley-VCH. For more than 125 years it has reported from the forefront of the chemical sciences. Its title already indicates that chemical results it publishes have a significant level of application ("Angewandte Chemie" translates as "Applied Chemistry")—not necessarily by becoming a commercial product, but by impacting the scientific community and thus further developing our discipline and the disciplines surrounding us. Contemplating the ideas published in Angewandte Chemie as well as the concepts and visions that can be derived from them, allows us to experience cutting-edge chemistry. To achieve this, the team of editors and the editorial board set the course for developing chemistry as a scientific discipline into future. They bear a huge responsibility. A scientific journal like Angewandte Chemie globally influences the goals that are targeted by the chemistry elite and therefore it has to create a clear identity without becoming exclusive. It stands for the kind of chemistry that is mandatory for progress. It demonstrates the value of research. It creates space for scientific, scientific-political, and scientific-historical discussions. Last, but not least, it presents role models and goals for young chemists.
