Seven-membered ring carbocycles are ubiquitous motifs in a wide variety of natural products including guanascaterpenes, colchicines, phorbols, and frondosins among many others. Since direct cyclizations have proved to be inefficient to construct this particular ring size, alternative strategies have been devised and mainly focus on cycloaddition reactions.
