Chemists fabricate multifunctional materials by integrating two or more distinct chemical functionalities into a single platform. This structural complexity allows the design of materials that possess contradictory properties. These materials have integrated properties that conventional single-phase materials can never achieve. The key to this integration is arranging the chemical functionalities at the desired positions within the material.
