摘要

The dispersal third stage juveniles of the pine wood nematode, Bursaphelenchus xylophilus, concentrate around pupal chambers of the Japanese pine sawyer, Monochamus alternatus, and molt to the dispersal fourth stage juveniles (J4) concurrent with pupation of pine sawyer (Mamiya, 1972). J4s load into the body of newly emerged adult pine sawyer and locate in the tracheal system throughout the insect body. When adult pine sawyers commence maturation feeding on fresh twigs of healthy pine trees, J4s leave the vector's body and invade the pine tissues through wounds made by the feeding insect. Thus pine frees infected with pathogenic nematodes become diseased and die.
