Influence of Temperature on Growth and Propagation of Steinernema glaseri (Nematoda: Steinernematidae)

The entomopathogenic nematodes-as-sociated bacteria complexes offer promising alternatives to chemical insecticides for the control of soil-inhabiting white grubs (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae). The field application studies have shown that Steinernema glaseri STEINER and Heterorhabditis bacterio-phora POINAR can provide acceptable levels of white grubs control. Presently, we are extensively evaluating S. glaseri as a practical biocontrol agent against white grubs in the laboratory and field tests. Alongwith the basic studies and field application trials of entomopathogenic nematodes, we need to confirm their safety to non-target organisms including human being.
