Basal and squamous cell carcinoma

BASAL AND SQUAMOUS CELL CARCINOMA ARE THE MOST COMMON FORMS OF SKIN CANCER,and are referred to collectively as non-melanoma skin cancer.1 They are associated with a lower mortality rate than melanoma. However, the incidence is increasing and their management poses an increasing burden on the NHS.Studies suggest that the incidence has doubled over the past 10 years, which may simply reflect improved detection and coding. However, with a trend for increased sun exposure during the latter half of the past century, it is likely that the incidence will continue to rise.
