Microsatellite analysis could help determine the outlook of patients with non-invasive bladder tumours and those with previous transitional-cell tumours (TCT) but no evidence of continuing disease. Delfina Fornari and colleagues assessed loss of hetero-zygosity in microsatellites on different chromosomal arms in 59 patients with TCP and in 25 with previous TCT. Data showed that recurrence could be predicted by analysis of lip and 8p in patients with previous TCT (p=0.009). This result could help patients with tumours of the same grade or stage, in low-risk and high-risk groups.
